US fellowships for Indian students

What: The United States Educational Foundation in India invites applications for its Fulbright-Case Fellowships in Law.

Fellowship details

~ USEFI and the Case School of Law, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, have jointly established the Fulbright-Case Fellowships in Law.

~ Fellowships will be awarded to two Indian law graduates for a period of one year to do their LLM with a clinical focus on either intellectual property rights or mediation/ alternative dispute resolution at the Case School of Law.

Are you eligible?

~ You must be a law graduate.

~ You must have two to three years experience of working in an organisation specifically in the area of intellectual property rights or mediation/ alternative dispute resolution.

~ You must have a high level of academic/ professional achievement.

~ You must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

~ You may be required to take TOEFL.

~ You must be present in India at the time of submitting the application and for the interview, if required.

~ You must be eligible for leave, if employed.

~ You must not have been in the US during the past three years on a teaching/ research/ study/ professional assignment for a continuous period of three months or more, at the time of submitting the application.

~ You must enclose a writing sample in English -- a legal opinion, published article, or an essay on a legal topic of your choice -- of no less than 300 words.

~ You must submit three letters of recommendations, which the recommenders must send directly to USEFI.

~ You must give an undertaking to return to India on the completion of the fellowship.

Additional information

~ The grant will provide a monthly stipend, health insurance, round-trip economy class air travel, modest settling-in and books and supplies allowances and tuition fees.

~ No allowances are provided for dependents.

~ The grant is not sufficient to support family members.

How to apply

~ Obtain the application material from any of the USEFI offices.

~ You may also obtain the application material via post from the USEFI office by sending a request along with a self-addressed envelope 10" x 7" in size bearing a stamp worth Rs 25.

~ Your request must contain the following:

~ To obtain the application form through email, as an attachment in MS-Word format, send a request to
ip@fulbright-india.org, specifying Fulbright-Case Fellowships in Law in the subject line.

Important dates

~ Issue of application material at USEFI ends: October 15.

~ Please send in your completed application form before October 31.
