Stirring facts: Why live-in?

The idea of living-in is still taboo for many young Indians, but there are others who believe it saves you from later grief.

Pranay Chettri, a copywriter by profession who has been living-in for the last two years, says, "It began as a temporary arrangement that went the whole nine yards."

"Primarily, a couple gets into a live-in relationship for love. Another reason could be to see if they vibe enough together to get married. Two people who just want to enjoy each other's company, but don't want to marry, may also opt for it," says Delilah Gonsalves*, an MNC executive currently in a live-in relationship.

Distance from home, the resulting anonymity, an opportunity to test the waters before settling in, the possibility of shared expenses, and a 'no strings attached' attitude -- these are other reasons. Many who try this sort of relationship, however, see it as a precursor to marriage.
