When you go for a job interview, the question uppermost on your mind is: what is the interviewer looking for? You wish you could second-guess his/ her expectations.

This week, we kickstart a new series in which Raghav Rao, chief editor, HRudaya (a montly e-zine by HRinIndia) will quiz the HR heads of different organisations to get a feel of what they are looking for in prospective employees.

Infinite Computer Solutions, an IT solutions and services provider, is currently recruiting technology professionals across the country. The company is also planning to set up an offshore development centre in China, which will complement its existing centres in India, the US and China. The rest of the recruitment is for the company's three offshore development centres in the US and one in Malaysia.

Here are excerpts from Raghav's interview with Sunder Rajan, general manager, human resources, Infinite Computer Solutions.

What profiles are you looking for?

We are looking for professionals with the knowledge of various technologies such as Java, Mainframe, Microsoft and Domain.
We are also looking for good Project Managers to join our growing team.

What are the educational qualifications needed to qualify for these positions?

Candidates interested in these positions must have an engineering degree or its equivalent. They must also have two to eight years of experience.

They must, of course, have a natural aptitude for the job.

What are the qualities you look for during recruitment?

You must have the following:

~ Good communication skills.

~ A good attitude that will help you be a good team member.

~ You must be a self-driven, passionate individual who will contribute to the organisation's growth and excel in the long run.

~ There is no age restriction for candidates.

Are you looking at freshers or people with experience?

At the moment, we are mainly doing lateral hiring. We are hiring very few freshers right now.

What is the recruitment procedure like?

There are various rounds.

The first stage is the screening of resumes.

Next, shortlisted candidates will meet a general recruiter who will assess their suitability.

This is followed by a round of technical discussions with the operations people.

Candidates who make it through these rounds meet the HR department so that we can understand their monetary expectations.

We then discuss the candidate with the concerned department, before making an offer that is in line with our internal standards. In simple English, this means we are careful to ensure there is no discrimination, in terms of salaries, etc, between existing employees and new recruits who share the same profile.

However, exceptions may be made in certain cases, such as when the demand for candidates exceeds the supply.

Generally, though, the recruitment team has to work within the stipulated budget for each of the positions being filled.

The remuneration is also dependent on the competency/ technical knowledge required for the job. Technically competent people working on a different technology do command different compensation, hence there will be some deviations here and there.

How can one apply?

We believe our current employees are our brand ambassadors and they 'sell' the company to prospective candidates.

This is why we give preference to internal referrals; existing employees do refer their friends and contacts for jobs advertised internally. These are called Employee Referrals. Once a referred candidate joins, we pay a Referral Bonus to the employee who referred them.

The second option is to select from our internal database or from the resumes mailed to our web site

If these resources fail, we try through job portals, vendors and the recruitment /search firms.

Where are the jobs based?

These jobs are based in Bangalore.

What are the growth prospects?

The company offers excellent growth and career prospects.

Those who perform consistently well can aspire to move up and get promoted to the next grade/level.

What are the perks/ training/ work culture a candidate can expect at Infinite Computer Solutions?

Ours is a very dynamic, fast growing organisation in various technologies.

We send our employees on overseas assignments in the US and UK after he or she has been with us for over a year.

We promote a friendly, flexible and harmonious work culture.
