Study medicine at AFMC!

What: The Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, invites applications for admission to its residential MBBS course.

~ Candidates admitted to AFMC, Pune, must serve as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services on graduation.

The service liability, which is the tenure of the service, will be seven years.

All candidates admitted to the course must execute a bond to this effect for Rs 15,00,000 (Rs 15 lakh) at the time of joining the college.

~ Students removed from service liability for any reason will have to pay the bond money as per conditions laid down by the government of India.

Number of seats

130 candidates (including a maximum of 25 girls) will be selected.

Special concessions

~ The government will provide free accommodation and rations, second class railway fare from college to home and back during vacations and a book subsidy of Rs 8,000 during the entire training period.

~ Students will be entitled to a uniform allowance of Rs 2,500 during the first year, a maintenance allowance of Rs 500 per year in subsequent years and any other allowances as applicable.

Are you qualified?

~ You must be medically fit.

~ You must be unmarried.

~ Marriage during the course is not permitted.

~ You must have passed the Class XII/ Pre-Professional/ Pre-Medical examination or its equivalent under the Indian University/ Board or any other recognised University/ Board, in all the subjects opted for in the first attempt.

~ Your subjects should have included English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

~ You must have an aggregate of at least 60 percent marks in the three science subjects taken together. You must have at least 50 percent marks in each of the science subjects and in English.

~ You must also have passed an examination in Mathematics at the matriculation level.

~ If you hold a B Sc degree, you must have at least two subjects -- Physics, Chemistry or Biology (Botany or Zoology) -- and must have passed Class XII/ Pre-Professional (Medicine) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. You must have an aggregate of at least 60 percent marks in the three science subjects taken together. You must have at least 50 percent marks in each of the science subjects and in English.

The following categories of students are not eligible to apply:

~ Candidates who have passed in Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, Lower Mathematics separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science, Social Studies in their High School/ Higher Secondary (multi-purpose) or an equivalent examination.

~ Candidates who have passed only Pre-University/ Pre-Degree (one year course) or Pre-Professional in Agriculture/ Veterinary/ Dental Examination.

~ Candidates who have passed the Pre-Professional or its equivalent qualifying examination as private candidates.

Age limit

~ Class XII candidates must be at least 17 years old and below 22 years as on December 31, 2005. 

~ B Sc graduates must be under 24 years as on December 31, 2005.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) on or before April 30, 2005, may also appear for the test provisionally.

Method of selection

~ Candidates will be required to appear for the competitive written test of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Intelligence, Reasoning and English language comprehension on May 1, 2005.

Selected candidates will be called for an interview at Pune in June 2005.

No TA/ DA is given for either the written test, interview or at the time of reporting for admission.

~ You can also obtain the prospectus and application form by post on payment of Rs 155 by a bank draft on any nationalised bank payable at Pune. The draft must be drawn in favour of the Commandant, AFMC, Pune. 

~ Please ensure that the demand draft bears the code number of the issuing bank.

~ Please mention your name and address on the back of the demand draft.

~ Please send your request along with a self-addressed envelope of 11 cm × 13 cm affixed with a postage stamp of Rs 55.

~ Also send your full postal address on two separate slips of paper (9 cm × 5 cm).

The request must contain the candidate's particulars and address. 

Bank drafts on any other banks, money orders, cash or postal orders will not be accepted.

~ A combined demand draft for more than one application will not be accepted.
