After saas-bahus, it's time for boxing!
November 23, 2007 16:14 IST

Seems television has it all -- suspense, intrigue, drama and comedy.

And now, the latest serial about to go on air is about boxing and features Kannada actress, Shobha M Lolanath as a female boxer. The serial aptly titled, The Champion, is produced by Famous Studio Limited, Mumbai.

Inspired by the life of Leila Ali, daughter of the famous Mohammed Ali, as well as the sports movies Chak De! India and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, The Champion tells story of a girl who wants to carve a niche for herself in the male dominion of boxing.

There is a lot of action in the serial directed by Siddarth.

But finding the right girl was the deal breaker and producer Vijay Parimo strove hard to find a suitable south Indian girl for the role. He zeroed in on Shobha, a Kannada TV star.

"Shobha has the right physique and visage to suit the character. Now the direction of the serial is going on in fast track," said Vijay.

Shobha, a classical Bharatanatyam dancer, has starred in more than 35 serials in Kannada. Her recent movie was with famous Kannada actor, Darshan Tugudeep in Bhoopathi.
