Aamir Khan [Images] is being targeted by the Bharatiya Janata Party because he is a Muslim, alleged Bharat Solanki, president, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee.

"The Gujarat Congress party is against Aamir Khan's stand on the Narmada dam issue and we have protested against it. But it is wrong to intimidate an artist by stopping the release of his film. Isn't the BJP aware that India still a democracy with a Constitution," asked Solanki.

Solanki told rediff.com when Khan clarified that he is not against raising of the dam's height, but is concerned about the displaced people, the Congress ended its protests.

"Gujarat will not tolerate any attempt to prevent the height of the dam from being raised. But one cannot stop the release of Fanaa [Images]," he said.

Solanki felt that with an assembly election due in 18 months, Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images], who is in a fix over the reservation issue, is attempting to divert attention.

"I believe Gujaratis are keen to watch the film but Modi and the BJP's stand against Fanaa is giving a bad name to the whole state," he said.
