Hum Tum is No 6 in UK!

rediff Entertainment Bureau | June 11, 2004 13:07 IST

Director Kunal Kohli and producer Aditya Chopra can smile some more.

The Saif Ali Khan-Rani Mukerji romantic comedy, Hum Tum, is No 6 on the British Top Ten, along with Hollywood movies like Troy (No 3), The Day After Tomorrow (No 2), and Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban (No 1).

The movie, which released May 28, has now earned a cumulative £335,023 in the UK, with a weekend gross of £90,315.

Its initial three-day weekend gross was an encouraging £220,000.

In North America, the film took an initial three-day weekend cumulative gross of $348,149.

Says Kohli excitedly, "We are monitoring all the overseas box-office charts. I know it is No 6 on the UK charts. It feels great! It is even better because it went from No 7 to 6, so it actually rose in the charts. That's excellent! It makes me wonder why, in India, one cannot accept Hum Tum is a hit. It is being labelled a semi-hit."

"As on May 31," he adds, "Hum Tum is also number six on the Screen International charts. It is the world box-office chart, since it includes the US, UK, Europe and South East Asia. That's a big achievement -- not many Bollywood films are included in this list."

He can take heart. In India too, the film is a hit, having collected Rs 4.76 crore (Rs 47.6 million), as on June 5.

Film Information, the trade magazine, says the film has fared 'phenomenally well' in metroplexes, is a 'A' (hit) in Mumbai and south India, and 'extraordinary' in Delhi.
