The Rising is the story of Indian soldier Mangal Pandey (Khan) who sparks the revolt against British rule. Stephens plays his British friend, Captain William Gordon.

The film will be made in English and Hindi. While the English title of the film will be The Rising, the Hindi title will be Mangal Pandey.

For the mahurat shot, Aamir and Toby donned uniforms of the British era. Aamir has also grown his moustache and hair to give his character a realistic look.
