Shakti -- The Power is a remake of the Telugu hit Anthapuram, starring Soundarya, Prakashraj and Jagapathi Babu. Both the Hindi and Telegu versions have been written and directed by Krishna Vamsi.

Earlier, he won the National Award for his first film Gulabi, remade by Inder Kumar as Aashiq (Bobby Deol, Karisma Kapoor) in Hindi.

Anthapuram is the Indianised version of Brian Gilbert's Not Without My Daughter, starring Sally Field, Alfred Molina and Roshan Seth. It is based on the true-life story of Betty Mehmoody, an American housewife and her daughter on the run from her Iranian husband's fundamentalist household.

Shah Rukh Khan in a hyped cameo reprises the role played effectively by Jagapathi Babu in Anthapuram.
