"When Mani (Ratnam) offered me Bombay, everyone advised me not to do regional films."

Manisha was cautioned by most of her colleagues against playing a mother and doing a regional film. But she went ahead and signed the critically acclaimed Bombay, thanks mainly to cinematographer-cum-friend Ashok Mehta’s insistence.

Not only did she bag a golden opportunity to work under ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, she also won the Filmfare Critic’s Award for Best Actress.
