Best Director: Steven Soderberg

Director Cameron Crowe won the Best Original Screenplay for Almost Famous.

In his thank-you speech, he made a special mention: "Kate (Hudson) you're magnificent!"

Actor Tom Hanks "Mr Easy Pants", whom host Steve Martin said, "Took the shortcut to Hollywood... He made hits!", introduced Sir Arthur C Clarke, who came on live via satellite in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Sir Clarke announced the best screenplay (adapted) to Stephen Gaghan for his adaptation of Traffic.

The Best Director Award went to Steven Soderbergh for his kickass, hard-hitting Traffic.

He said, "I thank anyone who spends part of their day creating, sharing their experience with us. I think this world would be unliveable without art. Thank you, all the artistes for inspiring me."
