Police shootout makes for a movieMahabaliOn November 25, 1995, a police shootout in Kuthuparambu caused the death of five, crippled one more, gave the Communists a whole new slew of martyrs -- and has now provided grist to the movie-maker's mill. Rakthasakshigal Marikkunilla, being produced as a full-length feature under the Vins Television banner, will focus on the real life story of Pushpan, the man who survived the shooting and now lives on in a state of total paralysis. Shivmohan Thampy will direct, the music score is by K P Udayabanu, and lyrics E Ramachandran, are the other credits that have been finalised thus far. Starring, will be an ensemble cast, the details of which are being worked out. The muhurat ceremony was, appropriately enough given the subject, conducted under the aegis of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) with the district secretary of the party switching on the camera, and other prominent functionaries sharing the dais and making speeches. The film will be shot almost entirely in Kuthuparambu itself, and is expected to have a quick floors-to-theatre turnaround time.
