Somnath? Who? asks CPM
May 16, 2009 20:24 IST

The CPI(M) today ticked off comment on the demand by its expelled member and Speaker Somnath Chatterjee [Images] that its general secretary Prakash Karat [Images] own up responsibility for the electoral debacle of the party in Lok Sabha election and consider quitting.

"He is no more in our party," Karat himself said when asked about Chatterjee's reaction.

His senior CPI(M) colleague Sitaram Yechury [Images] also said Chatterjee was no longer in the party.

"I haven't heard what he has said. It is his personal opinion," Yechury added.

Chatterjee was last year expelled from CPI(M) for refusing to quit as Lok Sabha Speaker when Left parties withdrew support to UPA government opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal.
