Bhartiya Janata Party leader L K Advani [Images] may offer to resign as leader of the Opposition when the party's parliamentary board meets at 5 pm on Saturday at his residence.

"I am not too sure if Advani would offer to resign leader of the party following defeat in the Lok Sabha election. But given the circumstance he may hand over the leadership to either Jaswant Singh or Rajnath Singh," a senior party leader told rediff.com after the results started pouring in.

Party President Rajanath Singh discounted the rumours about Advani offering to resign. "He is our leader and would continue in the future as well," he said. Rajnath admitted that the party had not done as well as it should have in Delhi [Images] where it lost all the seven seats, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. He did not expect NDA to split.
