Under fire for his alleged anti-Muslim speeches, Bharatiya Janata Party [Images] leader Varun Gandhi [Images] was in more trouble on Thursday with the Election Commission seeking a report on the alleged distribution of money by him on March 4, even as the Pilibhit [Images] district administration said that an inquiry had found the allegation to be true.

"The commission on Thursday got some inputs regarding alleged distribution of money by the BJP candidate and it has sought a report from the district magistrate in this regard," Chief Electoral Officer Anuj Kumar Bishnoi told media persons in Lucknow [Images].

Bishnoi said that as directed by the EC, two separate First Investigations Reports were lodged against the 29-year-old BJP candidate, who is making his political debut from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh [Images], for allegedly making inflammatory remarks and inciting communal feelings during rallies held on March 2 and March 8.

"We also have some inputs regarding a similar meeting held on February 22 on which a separate report has been sought from the district magistrate," Bishnoi said.

Meanwhile, Pilibhit sub-divisional magistrate M A Akhtar said that an inquiry conducted by the district administration had found that Varun distributed money to some people in Bisalpur village on March 4.

The inquiry, carried out by Naib Tehsildar Janki Prasad, said that Varun had extended financial help to at least two persons after the dates of Lok Sabha polls were announced and model code of conduct came into effect, Akhtar said.

The inquiry was carried out on the directives of the district magistrate M P Agarwal, whose removal has already been ordered by the EC.

Some villagers had earlier lodged a complaint with the district administration accusing Varun of giving Rs 10,000 to kin of a vendor killed a few days back and Rs 5,000 to some other people.

On the directives of the district magistrate, Akhtar also visited the area on Wednesday and took statements of the people in this connection.

Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brij Lal said that the two FIRs were lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Representation of Peoples' Act against Varun.

"The FIRs were lodged at Barkheda police station and Pilibhit Kotwali, and the matter is under investigation," Lal told media persons.
