'My father is the toughest person I know'

April 23, 2009

"I don't understand politics. I understand development," that's what Daman Singh, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's second daughter, told rediff.com during an interview in January.

Unlike Priyanka Gandhi, who has been garnering maximum media coverage in the election campaign thanks to the power of the Gandhi family, Daman is part of the people who are 'ruled.'

Daman is the perfect reverse image of Priyanka. She is just one of us. Despite the security bandobast around her New Delhi home, she is informal and speaks without reminding the listener that her father is the prime minister of India.

When asked why her family maintains a low profile, she laughs coyly and says, "It is not like that. Nobody came to us to talk. We are not at all shy. We have our lives; our work keeps us busy."
