Wooing young voters in the country, Congress president and United Progressive Alliance chairperson, Sonia Gandhi [Images] on Monday vowed that Congress was committed to realize the dreams of the youth.

Addressing party's election rally at Silchar in South Assam, Sonia said, "About 70 per cent of the country's total population are below 35 years of age. The youth have a dream and the Congress is with the youth to help them realize their dream."

"The Congress is focused on the over-all development of all sections of the people including poor, downtrodden and women. Every election has its own significance, but Lok Sabha election is about India's future dreams," Sonia said.

She flayed the BJP for terming Dr Singh a weak prime minister and said it was the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government that released a terrorists during the Kandahar episode. The country's parliament was attacked when BJP leader L K Advani [Images] was the home minister.

Referring to vexed insurgency problem in Assam and the Northeast, Sonia said "The youth should realize that violence doesn't lead to solution to any problem. Solution lies in only democratic process."

She recalled former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's [Images] love for Assam and his contribution towards restoration of peace in the state.

Earlier, Sonia attended two more election rallies at Shillong in Meghalaya and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.
