Jayalalitha will enter the national scene: AIADMK

Sheela Bhatt in New Delhi | May 12, 2006 01:57 IST

Dr V Maitreyan, spokesman of All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and a loyal follower of outgoing Chief Minister Jayalalitha told rediff.com, "Our defeat is honourable and we have not been wiped-out of the State."

He said if AIDMK gets two years time before Parliamentary elections his leader Jayalalitha will enter the national scene.

He argued all is not well with rival DMK's victory.

He explained a few reasons. "DMK haven't got the absolute victory. Left parties are supporting from outside and Congress and PMK support is also necessary for DMK. Meaning, this is first time Tamilnadu will have a minority government. It will bring instability in the State."

Complete Coverage

He pointed out, "Karunanidhi is unable to walk. When he retires there will be instability because allies and many others are not going to accept his son Stalin after Karunanidhi. At that time government will be in trouble."

Also, he said that Chennai city has given the spilt verdict.

Chennai is the DMK's bastion but it's results were not to DMK's satisfaction.

"People of Chennai have expressed gratitude for Amma's work. She got them water and she gave respite after Tsunami. Out of 14 seats in Chennai we have got seven seats." Dr Maitreyan said.

When asked what lesson AIDMK has learnt from the defeat he said, "Amma has performed remarkably well. Her development record, her efforts to build infrastructure and her welfare schemes everything was remarkable. Still we lost power that means only populism attracts people."

Interestingly, Professor Nagnathan, a man whose brainchild was DMK's manifesto has lost the election from Triplicane. Professor who is confidante of Karunanidhi devised the populist schemes but his "own making of dreams" didn't help him win.
