Celebration at Karunanidhi residence; Jayalalithaa's deserted

May 11, 2006 10:34 IST

With early trends indicating Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's return to power, huge crowds of jubilant supporters thronged party president M Karunanidhi's residence in Chennai.

A steady influx of supporters also kept pouring in at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, at the arterial Anna Salai since Thursday morning.

Supporters gathered outside the four counting centres in the city, cheered and burst crackers each time news came in that the DMK was leading in most of the constituencies.

In sharp contrast, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo Jayalalithaa's house at Poes Garden wore a deserted look, with Jayalalithaa having retired to her Siruthavoor residence soon after the elections on May 8.
