Exit polls: DMK front to sweep TN; Left WB, Kerala; Hung House in Assam

May 08, 2006 22:16 IST

An exit poll conducted by Times Now TV channel and Hansa on Monday night predicted a clean sweep for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu and for the Left in West Bengal and Kerala and a hung assembly in Assam in the assembly elections.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK front was expected to get 150 seats in the 234-member house, followed by the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with 81 seats and others with three.

In West Bengal, the Left front was given 231 seats in the 294-member assembly. The All India Trinamool Congress was expected to finish second with 31 seats, followed by Congress with 27 and others with five seats.

In the 140-member Kerala assembly, the Left Democratic Front was predicted to get 94 seats, unseating the Congress-led United Democratic Front government.

The Congress-ruled Assam was shown to be headed for an unclear verdict, with the Asom Gana Parishad emerging as the single largest party with 53 seats in the 126-member assembly, followed by the Congress with 42 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party with 7 and others 27.

There was no exit poll for Pondicherry, which also went to polls.

The actual counting of votes in the assembly polls would be taken up on May 11.
