RJD dissolves state, district level panels

March 09, 2005 20:31 IST

Rashtriya Janata Dal state president Abdul Bari Siddiqui on Wednesday dissolved all party committees at the state and district levels.

The posts of state party president, secretary general, general secretary and treasurer were retained for technical reasons, Siddiqui said.

The exercise was undertaken at the directive of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, he said.

All committees would soon be reorganised in order to strengthen the party, Siddiqui added.

He said former ministers and senior party leaders would be entrusted with important responsibilities and would be given charge of districts.

Siddiqui said an information centre would be set up at the party headquarters in Patna.

The move comes soon after the assembly election, where the party failed to secure even a simple majority.
