Kalam to meet NDA leaders tomorrow

A day after putting off his meeting with National Democratic Alliance leaders due to "other engagements", President A P J Abdul Kalam has given a fresh appointment to them on Wednesday.

NDA is expected to convey to the President Kalam that the Jharkhand governor's decision to advance the dates for the trial of strength by six days would not be effective in preventing horse trading and that it should be further advanced, sources said.

"The president has called us and we will decide on the names of the leaders who will call on him at the NDA meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) morning", Bharatiya Janata Party leader V K Malhotra told PTI.

Munda challenges Soren's appointment in SC

The abrupt cancellation of the appointment had triggered speculation that Rashtrapati Bhavan did not want to get involved in the war of wits between the United Progressive Alliance and the NDA in Jharkhand.

They may urge the president to ensure that all legislators supporting the alliance should be provided security "as they
were being threatened" by the Soren government.
