Rabri stakes claim to form govt

Caretaker Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Saturday called on Bihar Governor Buta Singh and staked claim to form the next government in the state.

She was accompanied by her husband and ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Earlier in the day, when RJD spokesman Shibanand Tiwari was asked if the party had obtained support of the required number of MLAs to form the government, Tiwari said: ''We have decided to stake claim to avoid imposition of President's Rule in the state.''

The RJD, with 75 MLAs, has emerged as the single largest party in Bihar.

The RJD has so far received letters of support from the 10-member Congress and one-member Communist Party of India-Marxist.

The Nationalist Congress Party and the Communist Party of India, with three MLAs each, have decided to vote for a secular government in the state.
