Bhajan Lal quits as Haryana Congress chief

March 04, 2005 20:39 IST

Senior leader Bhajan Lal stepped down as president of the Haryana Congress on Friday.

His resignation came soon after Bhupinder Singh Hooda was elected chief of the Congress Legislative Party in New Delhi on Friday.

Sources close to Lal said the veteran leader faxed his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress won a landslide victory in Haryana, winning 67 seats in the 90-member House.
