Court asks Siwan DM to justify ban

February 24, 2005 19:51 IST

The Patna high court on Thursday asked Siwan District Magistrate C K Anil to justify his order to ban Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Mohammad Shahabuddin from entering the district for six months.

Hearing Shahabuddin's writ petition seeking that the DM's order, passed under the Bihar Crime Control Act, be quashed, Justice Shiv Kirti Singh directed Anil to file a counter-affidavit by Monday.

Shahabuddin's counsel Y V Giri argued there was no ground to apply CCA to the MP.

The DM had initially barred Shahabuddin from entering Siwan for one year, but later the period was reduced to six months.

Shahabuddin came out of the Beur jail on Thursday after Chief Minister Rabri Devi set aside Anil's order to detain the RJD Parliamentarian till February 28.
