FIR against Union minister for violation of model code

February 19, 2005 19:39 IST

A first information report was registered against Union Minister of State for Civil Supplies Mohammed Taslimuddin on Saturday for allegedly violating the model code of conduct for elections in Bihar's Kishanganj district, police said.

The case was lodged against the Rashtriya Janata Dal Lok Sabha member from Kishanganj and others under the Defacement of Property Act and for the violation of model code.

The first two phases of the three-phase assembly election in the state are over and the third phase is scheduled for February 23.

Election Commission's Special Advisor K J Rao had, during his visit to Kishanganj on the day of polling on February 15, noticed slogans and posters pasted on the walls in the town.

He instructed Protocol Officer Sanjay Upadhyay, who was accompanying him, to ensure that an FIR was filed.

Earlier, a case was lodged against another Union minister, Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, for allegedly violating the model code while campaigning for Congress nominees in the state.
