Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi soon after the new ministry was sworn in at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 22. Looking on is the Communist Party of India-Marxist veteran, Somnath Chatterjee, who has been offered the speakership of the 14th Lok Sabha.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the swearing-in, Sonia Gandhi said she will now focus on reorganizing the Congress since many of the working committee members have joined the government.
