Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has been invited by President A P J Abdul Kalam for discussions on government formation either Monday night or Tuesday morning.

A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said the President has sent a letter to Gandhi at 1700 hours requesting her to meet him 'today or tomorrow morning for discussions as per her convenience'.

The invitation to Gandhi has been sent after Kalam noted that the Congress party has emerged as the single-largest party in the Lok Sabha and with its pre-poll allies as the largest political formation in the House.

"The President, having noted that Smt Sonia Gandhi having been elected leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party sent a letter at 5 pm today requesting her to meet him today or tomorrow morning for discussions at her convenience," the communique said.
