Vajpayee wins from Lucknow

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday won the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat defeating his nearest Samajwadi Party rival Madhu Gupta by a margin of 2,18,375 votes.

Vajpayee polled 3,24,714 votes against Gupta's 1,06,339. Congress-backed Independent candidate Ram Jethmalani finished third securing 57,685 votes.
