'Urban areas are shining, don't know about rural ones'

Peeya Rai Chowdhury, 24, was a popular VJ before she switched over to acting. She was last seen in Darna Mana Hai. She is also awaiting the release of Gurinder Chadha's Bride and Prejudice. Peeya spoke to Ronjita Kulkarni about Election 2004.

What is your take on politicians?

Some politicians are doing well and some aren't. I am politically aware but not to an extent that I can give you a point of view. My knowledge of politics is not that much. But I'm happy with our existing prime minister. I really like the ruling party because I feel India has progressed. Every industry has progressed. Standard of living has gone up.

Is India shining?

The urban areas are shining, I don't know about the rural ones. Look around! The standard of living has really improved. One house has three cars. People have DVD players etc. People spend a lot more.
