The Election Commission on Tuesday directed the Jammu and Kashmir administration to register an FIR against the People's Democratic Party chief, Mehbooba Mufti, for intimidating a voter.

Mehbooba had entered a booth on April 26 in Srinagar and questioned the credentials of a woman voter. She had also removed the voter's veil.

The FIR is to be filed under section 171 (c) of the Indian Penal Code and other concerned sections of the Representation of the Peoples Act.

PDP's main rival, the National Conference, had filed a complaint with the state election commission about the April 26 incident.

The NC had threatened to pull out of the Lok Sabha polls if the EC failed to take note of their complaint.
