There was drama at the Hyderabad airport on Wednesday afternoon as Telugu actress Vijayashanti, along with Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu, waited to fly to Bellary Lok Sabha constituency to file her nomination following rumours that Congress would field Priyanka Gandhi from there.

"Naidu and Vijayashanti were at Hyderabad airport monitoring the flights as reports were circulating that Priyanka Gandhi may be going to Bellary to file her nomination papers. In case she had done so, the party would have fielded Vijayshanti," a BJP source said.

The two were at Hyderabad airport and "our persons were in constant contact with the ATC to know whether any aircraft was headed for Bellary," the source said.

In the 1999 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had fielded Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj from Bellary against Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Gandhi won the seat eventually.
