Criminal wants transfer to campaign

A special sessions court (Gangster Act) in Lucknow on Wednesday refused to transfer Om Prakash Srivastava alias Babloo Srivastava from Bareilly jail to Sitapur jail for campaigning.

He is contesting the Lok Sabha election as an Apna Dal candidate from Sitapur.

Rejecting Srivastava's application, Special Judge R A Kaushik observed that he had no constitutional right to be allowed to interact with the public or campaign as he had a terrible criminal background.

Secondly, the court raised the issue of jurisdiction pointing out that he was transferred to Bareilly jail on administrative grounds and not by the court's order.
