EC sends SMS asking voters to exercise franchise

April 20, 2004 21:36 IST

The Election Commission has taken a leaf out of political parties.

On Tuesday, voters who were subscribers of Reliance and BSNL WLL service were in for a surprise SMS from the Election Commission urging them to vote.

'Please exercise your right to Vote - Election Commission,' the SMS read.

As the day progressed, the Election Commission sent to the Reliance subscribers messages asking voters, 'Have you exercised your right to vote? If not, please do so.'

A similar SMS signed by the BSNL Cell One mobile was also sent to its subscribers who also received similar messages on their landlines.
