Former Union minister P Chidambaram and former state Congress president E V K S Elangovan are among the seven candidates the party will field in the coming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.

Chidambaram has been nominated from Sivaganga seat while Elangovan from Bobichettipalayam, AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes said in a statement in Delhi.

Other candidates cleared by the Central Election Committee are K Rani (Rasipuram-SC), K V Thangkabalu (Salem), S K Karvendan (Palani), N S V Chithan (Dindigul) and J M Haroon (Periyakulam).

The party had earlier cleared Mani Shankar Aiyar from Mayiladuthurai and R Prabhu from Nilgiris.

Congress will contest 10 seats in the state as per the seat sharing arrangement with the DMK.

Meanwhile, the party has nominated Amita Singh to contest the assembly by-poll from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Amita is the wife of Sanjay Singh who quit the BJP recently to join the Congress.

She was earlier elected on a BJP ticket. Amethi falls in the Lok Sabha seat from where Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son Rahul Gandhi is making his debut in electoral politics.
