Militants on Tuesday attacked a polling station in Chadoora constituency in Budgam district to disrupt polling, official sources in Srinagar said.
Armed militants opened fire on the polling booth manned by CRPF personnel at Chandpora village around 1000 hours IST, the sources said.
There were no casualties in the incident but polling was disrupted for a brief period, they said.
Meanwhile, militants attacked the houses of two candidates and brutally killed a close relative of another candidate in the Kashmir valley since Monday night.
Police on Tuesday recovered the beheaded body of Abdul Rehman Sofi, maternal uncle of National Conference candidate from Bandipora Javid Hussain Shah, from Dachigam area in Baramulla district, the sources said.
Rehman was abducted and later killed by the militants, they added.
In another incident, ultras opened fire on the house of National Conference sitting MLA and party candidate from Shopian, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi, at Kachdoora in Pulwama district on Monday night, the sources said. No one was injured in the incident, they added.
This was the third attack on Rafi's house in the past four days. Militants had lobbed grenades and opened fire on his house on two earlier occasions, but Rafi had escaped unhurt.
Militants also attacked the house of an independent candidate from Chadoora, Syed Abdul Rashid Bukhari, in Budgam district on Monday night. His guards retaliated, the sources said, adding no was hurt in the shootout.
