Eight injured in grenade attack
on PDP campaign vehicle

Election 2002 At least eight persons were injured when militants attacked a campaign vehicle of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) at Sangam in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Monday afternoon, official sources said.

Militants hurled the grenade on the PDP vehicle on Mai Road, the sources said adding, the PDP activists escaped unhurt as the device rebounded after hitting the vehicle and fell on the road.

However, the resulting explosion caused injuries to several pedestrians, they said.

The condition of three was stated to be serious, they said.

Meanwhile, a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces at Wacharnag in Soura on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday afternoon.
