Azad favours CM, Dy CM to be
from different regions of state

Election 2002

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday said he favoured an arrangement where the chief minister and the deputy chief minister in Jammu and Kashmir would come from different regions of the state.

"I have always said that if the chief minister is from Jammu, there must be a deputy chief minister from Kashmir or vice versa so that there is an equal representation from both regions in the government," Azad said.

The remark was made in the background of a possible alliance between the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
