PM to lead BJP's campaign in Gujarat

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will lead the Bharatiya Janata Party's election campaign in Gujarat by attending meetings Surat, Vadodra, Rajkot and Ahmedabad, while his deputy Lal Kishenchand Advani will canvass in all 25 districts of the state, sources said on Wednesday.

Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan, Coal Minister Uma Bharati and Civil Aviation Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain will also address people in Gujarat, the sources said.

The party's tribal leaders, Jual Oram and Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, will campaign in the tribal areas of the state, they said.

There will also be no dearth of glamour. Dream girl of yesteryears Hema Malini and actress Juhi Chawla will urge the people to vote for the BJP, the sources said.

Film stars-turned-ministers Shatrughan Sinha and Vinod Khanna and a host of popular television stars, including 'Shaktiman' Mukesh Khanna, will be part of the BJP's repertoire, they said.

The party has also set up a central campaign committee, the first-ever for a single state election. The panel, which is in addition to the state campaign committee headed by former chief minister Keshubhai Patel, comprises Union Communications and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan and general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the sources said.
