RJD candidate arrested for assaulting policeman

Rama Devi, the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate from Motihari parliamentary constituency and a member of the dissolved Lok Sabha, was arrested by the police but released after a few hours on bail last night.

East Champaran police superintendent A S Rajan said today that the RJD candidate tried to disturb the electoral process during repolling in two booths at Madhurapur under the Lok Sabha constituency. He said she, along with her personal bodyguards, had abducted the officer-in-charge of the local police station when the officer objected to the alleged attempt to disturb polling. They allegedly beat the officer.

Rajan said the police officer was later released from the clutches of the RJD candidate. He said an FIR was filed with the Fenhara police station based on the police officer's version. He said he had also recommended suspension of her personal bodyguards. Their firearms were also impounded by the police, he added.
