West Bengal BJP chief beaten up

The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party president and a candidate from Dumdum, Tapan Sikdar, and his associates were assaulted allegedly by some CPI-M supporters at Subhasnagar in North 24 Parganas district today, police said.

Sikdar has lodged a complaint with the Dumdum police station. No one has been arrested so far.

State BJP vice-president, Paras Dutta, told newspersons that a mob, believed to be CPI-M activists, intercepted Sikdar's convoy and dragged him out of his car. When his aides came to rescue him, they were also attacked.

Two women members of the party were also assaulted, Dutta alleged.
