12 held for attack on Surjeet's convoy

Twelve people suspected of attacking the convoy of CPI-M general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet last night have been arrested, the police said today.

Superintendent of police Kuldeep Singh said they were arrested from Agarpara area in North 24 Parganas district. Two policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Khardah police station were seriously injured in the attack, while eight other policemen sustained minor injuries.

Surjeet's convoy was passing through BT road on his return from Titagarh after an election meeting, when it came under attack.
