Border with Nepal will be shut to prevent poll violence

The 152 km-long Indo-Nepal border in Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj districts of Uttar Pradesh would be sealed, with officials of both the country keeping a watch during the polling for Lok Sabha elections to check infiltration of anti-social elements.

District magistrate K L Sharma, after returning from a meeting with officials of Roopandei, Navalrasi and Kapilavastu districts of Nepal at Bhairahwa, said the border with Nepal will be sealed two days before polling, and sale of liquor banned in these areas. He said the meeting took several important decisions regarding the conduct of peaceful and fair polling and strategy for checking the activities of smugglers and criminals.

Meanwhile, the district police chief said here that as many 7497 people had been detained by the administration in apprehension of breach of peace during polling.
