Karan Singh will file nomination paper from Lucknow on September 14

Following the clearance of his candidature by the Congress central election committee late last night Dr Karan Singh, candidate against Prime Minister A B Vajpayee from Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency, will file his papers on September 14, the last day of filing nominations.

The former Union minister said, "I am taking up this challenge with a sense of great enthusiasm."

Dr Singh would reach Lucknow on Monday to file his nomination the next day.

A well-known scholar and orator, Dr Singh is expected to give a tough fight to Vajpayee. A former president of the Hindu Virat Sammelan, Dr Singh also served as governor of Jammu and Kashmir and India's ambassador to the United States.

Dr Singh, who was a member of the Indira Gandhi cabinet left the Congress for some time and rejoined the party recently. He did not join any other party in the intervening period.
