'Sowcar' Janaki lambasts Sonia

Versatile actress of yesteryear 'Sowcar' Janaki today said Congress president Sonia Gandhi had displayed political immaturity and low taste by calling Prime Minister A B Vajpayee a traitor.

Addressing a press conference in Madras, the actress, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party recently, said Sonia was being given wrong advice by senior Congress leaders.

They were exposing themselves by such utterances which showed their desperation, she said.

Janaki said the Congress president was known for saying one thing and doing something entirely different. She also criticised her for politicising the Kargil conflict.

The Congressmen had the temerity to think that it was their birthright to run the government; thank god there are many other Indians to run this country, she added.

The actress hailed former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao for breaking the hold of the dynasty over the Congress at least for five years and said in a lighter vein that if Mahatma Gandhi was alive today, he would have congratulated Rao for destroying the party.

Janaki said she had joined the BJP to serve as an ordinary worker and was not aiming for any position in the party.
