Campaigning for second phase of poll ends today

A lacklustre campaign for the second phase of the Lok Sabha poll scheduled for September 11 in 123 constituencies, spread across eight states will close this evening.

Prominent leaders in the fray include Union Petroleum Minister Vazhapadi Ramamurthy, former Union ministers Madhavrao Scindia, Sharad Pawar, K Karunakaran, Murasoli Maran, T R Balu and Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi.

The election will be held in the second phase in Andhra Pradesh (15 seats), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Karnataka(13), Maharashtra (24), Tamil Nadu (20), Madhya Pradesh (14), Rajasthan (15) and Kerala (20).

Simultaneous polls to the assembly are also being held in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka in this phase.

While star campaigners for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance were Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Union Home Minister L K Advani, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, along with her daughter Priyanka spearheaded her party's campaign.
