BJP candidate killed in mine blast in Anantnag

Ghulam Hyder Noorani, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Anantnag parliamentary constituency, was killed along with two others in a mine blast on Pahalgam road in South Kashmir this afternoon.

Official sources said the car in which he was travelling was blown up in a powerful mine blast. Noorani, his driver and another person were killed on the spot.

Noorani was reportedly going to address an election meeting in a nearby village. Senior police and civil officials have rushed to the site. He is the first candidate to be killed by militants during elections in Jammu and Kashmir since 1996.
