Sonia rejects Manmohan's resignation

Former Finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will continue as the opposition leader in Rajya Sabha. His resignation from the post has been rejected by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, it was announced today.

At a press briefing in New Delhi, Congress spokesman Ajit Jogi said Dr Singh had submitted his resignation but the Congress president asked him to continue as the leader of the opposition in the House.

Jogi said that Pranab Mukherjee will continue as the chief whip in Rajya Sabha, while H Hanumanthappa will continue be the deputy leader.
