Kalyan Singh should resign: UP Congress

The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow today, leader of the state Congress Legislature Party Pramod Tiwari said the results of the just concluded Lok Sabha elections have proved that the Bharatiya Janata Party had lost the people's confidence. An analysis of the results shows that the BJP has lost support of the majority of voters in 305 assembly constituencies and its share of popular votes has gone down sharply, he said.

In such a situation, he added, Kalyan Singh has no moral right to continue in office. He alleged that Kalyan Singh had helped the Samajwadi Party to gain more seats in the election for its vote percentage too had gone down.

Tiwari said had the SP not enjoyed the support of the chief minister and the administration, the Congress would have bagged more seats.

The link between Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav has been fully exposed in the Lok Sabha elections and both will openly join hands in the next assembly elections, he said.

He said for the first time after 1985 his party had registered an increase in its vote percentage.

Tiwari said the SP has done well in the areas which were under the influence of Sakshi Maharaj and where the administration fully cooperated with it.
