Sikkim CM reshuffles cabinet

Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, who was sworn in at the head of a two-tier 17-member ministry on Monday, has reshuffled the portfolios of nearly all his outgoing cabinet colleagues.

Governor Randhir Singh allocated the portfolios Tuesday.

The chief minister will hold the home, finance, planning and development, personnel administration, reforms and training, rural development, panchayat, excise, election, women and child development, welfare and other departments not allotted to any minister.

Of the 11 cabinet ministers, Power Minister Hissey Lachungapa was retained in his ministry. He will also look after the state labour department.

Roads and Bridges Minister Dorjee Dazom Bhutia was shifted to health and family welfare, science and technology, youth and sports affairs, information and public relations, besides printing and stationary departments.

Tourism Minister Garjaman Gurung is now in charge of the agriculture department with additional charges of horticulture and irrigation departments.

Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Karna Bahadur Chamling will now on look after the food and civil supplies and consumer affairs and co-operative departments.

Forest Minister Ran Bahadur Subba has been allocated the public works department and parliamentary affairs.

Animal Husbandry Minister Prem Singh Tamang continues with the same portfolio. In addition he will look after industry.

Of the four new faces in the council of ministers, Dorjee Tshering Lepcha will look after forest, mines and geology departments and Karma Tempo Namgyal Gyaltsen the tourism and land revenue portfolios.

'Giant-killer' Ram Bahadur Subba, who defeated former chief minister and Sikkim Sangram Parishad chief Nar Bahadur Bhandari in his home constituency, Soreng, in West Sikkim was awarded the education and law departments.

The other new cabinet minister and former state power department chairman Sher Bahadur Subedi has been given the Sikkim Nationalised Transport and motor vehicle departments.
